August 28th, 2006

Ok, so I haven't updated in awhile. Sorry. I get bored and then I get busy and then I forget to update. I've never been good at it though. It's hard to update consistently and say interesting things so I try to wait until I get good stuff! So hurray. Lets try again. This week started off slow but ended with a bang.

On monday and Tuesday, NOTHING HAPPENED. Really. It was boring. I did laundry and cleaned and puttered. It was hot and I was most likely grumpy. Poor Chris. He still isnt back at to school yet so he's spent a lot of time in the Board of Education. Thats 8 hours of just sitting around being bored. Hey! Kinda like my day! Kidding, I have internet and TV, so its not so bad. Anyways, he has to sit around at the BOE and he doesn't really enjoy it. BUT! He does get to come home for lunch that his wife prepares for him.

On Wednesday, there were happenings! About a week before Wednesday, I noticed that I had a weird little spot on my right eyelid. I figured it was an ingrown hair and it would just work itself out. However, during the next week it just got worse. It started pushing and rubbing against my eye. Plus it itched and hurt. So, much to my dismay, it became time to see the eyedoctor. Now, I don't know who knows this, but I HATE the eye doctor. HATE. HATE HATE HATE. I don't like people messing with my eye. I have always had difficulties at the eye doctor because I can't deal with eye drops (aren't I a baby?). I can't help it, but I always close my eye when the drop is coming. It's the same reason I always blink if you count when you take my picture. Whenever someone hits '2', I just close my eye. So eye doctors have always been a trial for me.

Anyways, Miharasan picked me and Chris up on Wednesday and took us to the doctor. This was a really nice Doctor's office, by the way. Miharasan said that it looked like a hotel. She couldn't get over how fancy it looked. Anyways, so they called us into the back exam room with this fancy machine. Chris came with us, Im not sure why. But he was there. Anyways, the doctor had me sit on an almost comfortable stool and the put my head in that machine that eye doctors like to use to exam eyes. Only, this machine had a camera on it with a microscopic lens. Oooo...fancy! ANyways, so he leaned the camera close in and zoomed in. Turns out, I did, in fact, have an ingrown eyelash. It had become infected and needed to be removed. IT was so gross though! You could see the eyelash underneath my skin. Of course, Miharasan and Chris were making "ooooh!' and "Ahhhhh!" and "ewwww" faces when they were watching. Then the doctor said, "I have to pull out an eyelash so I can see it better..."

...

Yes. Yes. The doctor plucked my eyelash. I will tell you now, that having your eyelash plucked out, when your eye is already sore and soggy (from the pus, dontchaknow) is really hurts. So thats what he did. My poor healthy eyelash! Plucked from its prime, all because it had the misfortune of being born in the wrong spot. So anyways, then we could really see the grossness. My eye was all red and swollen around the bump because of the stupid ingrown eyelash. Then the doctor said, "I'm going to try to pull it out and see if I can get it that way."

...

Yeah, the doctor proceeded to pull my eyelash (with Miharasan, Chris and a few nurses looking on) through my skin and pluck it. Ouuuuch! That one really hurt. My brave husband held my hand and let me squeeze it really hard. The worst part is, my natural reaction to pain is to scrunch my eyes closed. But I had to keep my eye half open so he could get it. Bleh. That was tough. I didn't cry though my eye did get really watery. Now I have goey ointment that I have to put on my eye three times a day so I can get rid of the infection. Yay! Im gross!

So that was Wednesday. On Thursday, I got to go with Chris to work. We went to the pool with a group of elementary students. It was really fun! Hannah and Rusty went too. So we spent several hours just floating around and playing with kids. Most of the kids had no idea who I was (these were Enya kids! I go to Enya thrice a week!). It was such a good time. They even fed us lunch. That night we went to Ramen with Jason, Judy, Sam, and Hannah. Then we went to US land to play some pool and table tennis. AFter that, everyone came back to our place and we played a rousing game of Apples to Apples. It was a trip. Its nice to hang out with people again. With so many cats around, it will be easy to find people to hang out with I think.

Friday was less thrilling but still nice. Chris took the day off (he took monday (today) off as well so he could have a four day weekend before work started) and we spent the day together just bumming around. I don't think we did anything except watch Walk the Line and Sayuri (which is called Memoirs of a Geisha in America). Oh yeah! We also went to Dinner with the newbie JETs. Angelo, Ewan, Eric, Hannah, and 2 girls from Oki whose names I don't remember. That was fun. It was such a big group that we decided to split to 2 tables and since Chris and I are old hats at sushi, we each took a table to tutor. Somehow we got seated at 2 booths across the sushi making area from each other. So Chris and I would be dumb and call each other if we needed to ask questions. It was a trip. Its always interesting to see people eat at a 'sushi train' (conveyor belt sushi restaurants) for the first time. Especially when they are sampling things. Hannah and one of the Oki girls are extremely more daring than I when trying new things. It was fun though.

On Saturday, my husband learned how to play cribbage so we could play together. Yay! I love Cribbage! Its probably my most favorite card game. We can't find a cribbage board anywhere though, so it difficult to keep score. We have an odd 'tick' method of scoring and Im pretty sure it works out right. We learned how to do cribbage and played some card games. I finished my puzzle and my sweetheart husband bought me a new one. It's so pretty. I will take pictures when Im done. It is one of a series of 5 puzzles and I am going to try to get them all over the course of the next year. It makes for interesting art. Anyways, that was our Saturday.

I enjoyed Sunday a lot. I got up late and then Chris and I went to the beach! Finally! After a year, I got to swim in the sea of Japan. That water is very cold, but its so clear. You can see all the way down to your toes in the water. You can also sea your shadow, thats how clear it is. There are also breakers so the water just gently rolls and waves. Very nice. I have to say, I think I like the water better than both the atlantic AND the gulf. Its just clearer, not much seaweed and its so gentle. I hope to go back at least one more time before it gets too cold. Its been so long since I played in the ocean. It was nice.

Today was kinda a let down. No one came to tea. :-( I think everyone is just out of the mindset of doing these things. This is the third week I have been back with no tea and the 6th week in a row with no tea. It may not recover. Let's hope so though!

So that is what has been going on. Not much exciting but some fun things. I hope its at least a little interesting. I found out when I went home that a lot more people than I thought read my journal. It puts the pressure on to be witty and interesting. So instead of being either, I decided to be gross when talking about my eye. Yay! It's still ooky too! Just be glad I didn't take a picture and show you. Heh. I am missing some eyelashes so there is a small gap in them. It's dumb. Oh well. I hope everyone else has had a lovely week too!
